The 700 billion bailout is the new WMD.

Oh, please. We all fell for this gag before.

We invaded Irag because of the promise to eradicate WMD. We found none, but we stayed. Billions later, no end in sight. No apology, thousands dead,(our childeren) nothing accomplished.

Now we have the evil toxic assets booked by our banks. The only solution, an expensive bailout. Same administration. Same hurry. Same ignorance of the facts. Same hurry.

We will soon find out that the toxic assets are really not there. Spend billions. No progress. Sorry we hurried.

Who's running for Congress?

In an August 2nd article, a Washington Post story began with this sentence:

"After two months of fever-pitch debate over how to deal with the soaring price of oil, Congress left town yesterday without doing anything on energy."

And in a recent interview with Bill Moyers on PBS, Boston University Professor Andrew Bacevich said:

"The Congress no longer is able to articulate a vision of what is the common good. The Congress exists primarily to ensure the reelection of members of Congress."

Are we really listening to the apologies of the politicians that get caught?

When Elliott Spitzer resigned he admitted that sex with an overpaid prostitute violated his sense for right or wrong.

When John Edwards admitted to having sex with a woman he met in a bar, while his wife was terminally ill, he said that he was disloyal to his core beliefs.

Two questions emerge.

1. What the hell are John's core beliefs and what does Elliott think is the difference between right and wrong.

Fair Tax, Flat Tax? -- Just fix the Tax

It is time to do a MAJOR overhaul on our federal tax system. It is a mess and becomes less fair to ALL each and every year. It is out of control and “increment-alism” will not work. Yes, it is time for a bold change and it does have some degree of risk. But, at one point (early in the 20th century) we had NO income tax and a bold risk was taken to put one in place. There were forecasts from both sides of the aisle of impending disaster and that the economy would absolutely collapse. It didn’t. It did create a new entry howeve

Vote out the Congressional Pay Raisers!

Despite record-low approval ratings, House lawmakers Wednesday were moving toward accepting an approximately $4,400 pay raise that will increase their salaries to almost $170,000.

The cost-of-living raise get lawmakers back on track for automatic pay raises after a fight between Democrats and Republicans last year and again in January killed the pay hike due this year. That was the first interruption of the annual congressional pay hike in seven years.

Looking to the 111th Congress

We should take a moment to look beyond the hype of the 2008 Presidential election the what is going to happen in the next congressional election. If the democrats maintain control, the power of the newly elected President could be vastly diminished.
