Would you tighten your belt if you could tap into a 700 billion dollar fund?

The three auto makers want a "bridge loan" of 25 billion dollars.

Senator Feingold supports this request. His logic is that taking 25 billion from the 700 billion approved by Congress recently, is an almost negligable amount. He stoped short of calling the request an act of patriotism to support an American tradition of making cars here, in the US. (I wonder what he drives)

The suggestion to let the three automakers file for Chapter 11 reorganization bankruptcy is being dismissed as Union busting.

Republicans need to redefine themselves so they are not the party of intolerance

I wrote a letter to the editor in Austin that discussed the election. The republicans who disagreed with my letter and wrote to me referred to me as a lesbian or a derogatory slur associated with lesbianism, even though the content of my letter had to do with sexism and equality, not gay marriage.

Free markets; a thing of the past?

The banks need bailing out.

The insurance companies need bailing out.

The auto makers need bailing out.

Mortgage lenders need bailing out.

And all the bailing out is done with taxpayers' money on an emergency basis and in huge amounts and based on the concept that unless these steps are taken, our nation's econonmy will collapse.

The talk of letting market forces work for even a few weeks or months is dismissed on both sides of the aisle.

breaking the bank and the law?

"Despite not being natural persons, corporations are recognized by the law to have rights and responsibilities like actual people. Corporations can exercise human rights against real individuals and the state,[1] and they may be responsible for human rights violations.[2] Just as they are "born" into existence through its members obtaining a certificate of incorporation, they can "die" when they lose money into insolvency. Corporations can even be convicted of criminal offences, such as fraud and manslaughter."

Financial Melt Down

The Community Reinvestment Act (CRA) was passed in 1977 by the Carter administration to encourage lending institutions to meet the needs of borrowers in all segments of their communities, including low- and moderate-income people. The Act had good intentions to reduce discriminatory credit practices. To enforce the statute, federal regulatory agencies examined lending institutions for CRA compliance when approving applications for new branches or for merger

Socialized Capitalism and Universal Healthcare

One of the main arguments against universal health care is this: “If we socialize health care, where will it end?” As if health care would be the first socialized institution in our country.

Our education system, police force, and even our mail system is socialized. How about Social Security, Medicare, Medicaid. When you look around and see all the social-type program we have, it seems rather amazing that only when health care comes up do people start to worry about socialism.

Scrap the new bailout plan and use THIS one

This is a very interesting plan that was sent to me via e-mail:

*Now here's a bailout plan I could enjoy.*

*Whoever T. J. Birkenmeier is, I sincerely salute him.

I'm against the $85,000,000,000.00 bailout of AIG.

Instead, I'm in favor of giving $85,000,000,000 to America in

a We Deserve It Dividend.

To make the math simple, let's assume there are 200,000,000

bonafide U.S. Citizens 18+.

Our population is about 301,000,000 ± counting every man, woman

and child. So 200,000,000 might be a fair stab at adults 18 and up..

If you are too big to be allowed to fail, you are too big to have ever existed.

How popular socialism has become!!

Free markets and free trade are suddenly for loosers. All of a sudden, the spokesmen for free markets and free trade are all for government bailouts.

Is it not fascinating that the evil government, the crutch for the poor and the downfall of the free economy worth sending our sons to die for in some foreign land is suddenly the only solution for an economic meltdown.

Republican economic theories are suddenly not working. Democratic socialistic ideas are.

Bailout Scam

I see that Bush's latest scam is to bailout the Wall Street investment banks and investors who conspired to create the sub-prime mortgage financial crisis in the first place. Instead of rewarding the swindlers, how about bailing out the individual property owners who are in default or at risk of defaulting on their morgage. This will diffuse the crisis at it's root cause, while helping out the innocent victims of this latest economic scam. Fannie Mae and Freddie Mac own most of the mortgages in the U.S. that are at risk , and the taxpayers own Fannie and Freddie now.
