Much Ado About Air Safety
- Posted by ZpadreThere's much ado about air traffic safety, with most of the problems occurring around the busy “Hub” terminals. In reality it doesn’t take a rocket scientist mentality to solve this problem, just common sense, pure logic and computer regulated aircraft spacing.

A brilliant (and thoughtful) individual has come up with a jamming device, (albeit illegal), that can quiet the rude cell phone user. This brings to mind walking through a mall and observing the cell phone addicts at play.
The portable blocker is about the size of a pack of cigarettes and has a range of around 30 feet. The big kahuna that has a much larger range sells for around 1,000 dollars, and is perfect for use in a restaurant, classroom, hospital or church setting.
Cookin' Oatmeal
- Posted by ZpadreAs a writer, I frequently fall back on using a analogy to make a point. Today is one of those times.
The analogy is comparing what the United States needs to help settle world peace as compared to cooking oatmeal on top of a gas stove.
What's wrong with this equation?
- Posted by ZpadreI love the Austin American Statesman!
Here's the latest in the what's wrong with this equation?
“Wynn proposes new rail project”; Front page 10/26/2007.
“This will be an extremely expensive undertaking, and Cap Metro isn’t in a position to finance it. And I’m not sure anyone else is, either”. Howard Falkenberg, Chairman of the Capital Area Transportation Coalition. page A13 same article as above, 10/26/2007.
“Dell begins cuts in local work force” Front page Business & personal finance section of the same issue, same date.
NASA Administrator Screws Up, Big Time!
- Posted by ZpadreThis seems to be my week to write complaints.
As a tax payer I will jump in the middle of politicians and/or bureaucrats in general with reckless abandon, this is one of those times.
The TV and newspapers have both taken up the gauntlet having to do with NASA’s high handed attitude that the federal government will follow we citizens from the cradle to the grave and this is a prime example of just that!
Why Do I Write?
- Posted by ZpadreI am occasionally asked why I write a blog, in my case it is four blogs, often on the same subject matter. Actually it amounts to four as they fall into a somewhat liberal newspaper, the Austin American Statesman, a conservative My Fox Austin, and an independent, http://www.tellmeyouridea.com/.
There is a simple reason for this diversity, the most important being that I do not feel so self important that I tell my readers what to think or vote. I often refer to myself as an on balance independent, and try to see all sides of any given question.
Austin"s Open Government?

Fair Tax, Flat Tax? -- Just fix the Tax
- Posted by LakeMichiganIt is time to do a MAJOR overhaul on our federal tax system. It is a mess and becomes less fair to ALL each and every year. It is out of control and “increment-alism” will not work. Yes, it is time for a bold change and it does have some degree of risk. But, at one point (early in the 20th century) we had NO income tax and a bold risk was taken to put one in place. There were forecasts from both sides of the aisle of impending disaster and that the economy would absolutely collapse. It didn’t. It did create a new entry howeve
A "Manhattan Project" for energy independence
- Posted by LakeMichiganDuring WWII the US government embarked on a secret project to counter the weapons development that was already underway in Nazi Germany for an atomic bomb. This project (called the Manhattan Project) was deemed important to the long term survivability of our nation and our way of life (rightly so, I might add). Multiple universities, government laboratories and private sector businesses participated on pieces of the project, not knowing how it all came together. It worked. It not only created a weapon, but the offshoot of new technologies that came from the project
