Many people are against gay marraige and say it is wrong. These people believe that it should not be legal. However, most people base those opinions off of their religious beliefs. Therefore, if we make gay marraige illegal because the Bible says that it is wrong, this is simply unconstitutional. Separation of Church and State is a major tenet of the Constitution, so we cannot be basing laws off of religion. I am not saying that we need to force churches to wed gays, but if they want to, they should be allowed to.
Ethics / Lobby
Don't blame the Supreme Court
- Posted by citizenKThe US Supreme Court has ruled that corporations and unions may freely spend their own money in a political campaigns, without any restrictions.
Critics are quick to condemn the ruling as a blow to democracy. The influence special interest will now have on the political system will further silence the little people.
Obama showed signs of socialism even as a child.
- Posted by citizenKIt was just recently reported that when Obama worked in an ice cream parlor, in Hawaii, as a teenager, he gave his friends free ice cream.
No big deal, you say. All teenagers do that. You have probably done that.
That in and of itself is the problem. Our Values have eroded and nothing but a return to the strictest moral conservative values will return us to where we need to be as a country and the leader in the world.
Its starts with a few scoops of ice cream and ends up with the giving away of billions of dollars without an end in sight.
The newest form of domestic terrorism-the republican party??
- Posted by JackBy now everybody has heard, read about, or maybe even experienced first hand, the tactics employed by the republican party and their operatives to disrupt town hall meetings at which healthcare reform is discussed.
Yes, its disruption without substance. It is not average citizens expressing their views. There is no view expressed when some load mouth just shouts down a meeting.
The new age of Stunt Politics
- Posted by JackIt all started innocently enough. A national campaign, in real trouble, needs a boost. A sane decision just will not do it. It would take a stunt or two to bring it back to life, even if ever so briefly.
That was of course the tactic of John Mccain. First, he suspended his campaign for a couple of days to deal with the economic crisis. What a stupid stunt!! Then, he picked Sarah Palin for his running mate. What a second stupid stunt!!
But hey, if that is the new trend in politics, why not try it again?
Republican leaders abandon family values claiming that they are sick and tired of being hypocritical.
- Posted by AllenSouth Carolina governor, Mark Sanford, the head of the Republican Governors Association, admitted to cheating on his wife. He of course apologized to her and his four sons, and agreed to step down from his post as the head of the republican governors. (OMG, here comes Palin??)
He is the second republican in less than two weeks to admit to cheating on his wife and abandoning those very basic family values. Values, mind you, which they preach and push and try to use to distinguish themselves from those moral(less) democracts.
In today's day and age we should not judge anyone by what they do in 100 days.
- Posted by citizenKA 100 day test may be a tradition, but since people actually watch and pay attention to what the media does, is dangerous.
What is the point in trying to determine whether a mere human being can do anything in 100 days? You do know that we now live in a global economy? You do know that we have more complex issues than anyone can handle over a span of several decades, let alone years?
This 100 review is a tradition whose' day has come. How about a quaterly review? How about a mid term review?
Chad's Economic Tidbits
- Posted by Chad.Mitchell8Hi, Everyone this my first post on this forum, so I wanted to take a second and reflect on our current economic state.
I feel at this point that the president strongly believes that spending more money right now will put us in a better position to compete in the future marketplace.
Tea Party madness.
- Posted by AllenOK. So what is the deal with these tea parties? Is there nothing good on tv? Why are these people out there? Big government? High taxes?
I think they are protesting for they know not what they protest against.
Lets try this for a while: no government, i.e.
No public schools...pay for your own schooling.
No public roads...pay tolls to some private entity.
No police or firefighters...hire your own for protection.
No social security...just save.
No minimum wage...
No health insurance...pay for it yourself.
No disaster relief...
