Don’t just Boot Bush – Reboot
- Posted by tloydIt’s pretty clear that the American people want to boot Bush & Co. out of the Whitehouse. Barack Obama’s message of change absolutely resonated in Iowa, stunning the country with an astounding win. Even on the Republican side, the insurgent who criticized the President’s “bunker mentality” beat the corporate Bush-apologist in Iowa. Change has been the recurring theme of this campaign so far.
Failure by Filibuster
- Posted by tloydIt’s the end of the year and a good time to take stock of what we’ve accomplished over the last year. What were you hoping the Democratically-controlled Senate would have accomplished in 2007?
A "Manhattan Project" for energy independence
- Posted by LakeMichiganDuring WWII the US government embarked on a secret project to counter the weapons development that was already underway in Nazi Germany for an atomic bomb. This project (called the Manhattan Project) was deemed important to the long term survivability of our nation and our way of life (rightly so, I might add). Multiple universities, government laboratories and private sector businesses participated on pieces of the project, not knowing how it all came together. It worked. It not only created a weapon, but the offshoot of new technologies that came from the project

How many of the Democratic candidates are willing to appoint and support Ralph Nader as Attorney General of the United States?
Not Vice President, not even a member of the Cabinet. Attorney General. Any Democrat willing to commit to that could get my vote, and surely that of millions more.
The Texas Governor's Power
- Posted by BillCAs Governor George W. Bush ran for President in 2000, reporters and pundits trotted out sound-bite versions of a lesson students have been taught about Texas for years: Compared to the U.S. President or the chief executives of other states, the Texas Governor occupies a "weak" office.
Global Warming
- Posted by cynthiaA few days after my family enjoyed watching "Happy Feet", my nine yr. old reminded me that global warming was "supposed to melt the glaciers and all the beauty". Now while I am impressed that the educational system is doing its job and making the children aware of real issues that will affect their lifestyles.
I am concerned that our leadership is not as proactive with environmental legislation as is needed. I would prefer that our children would not have to worry, because they knew the adults were taking care of these crucial matters.

In addition, the survey found women 50 percent more likely than men to have experienced high or extremely high levels of financial stress in the previous 18-24 months.
Leave Iraq?
- Posted by KellysIraq's closest neighbors gathered Friday in Riyadh to forge a common goal for the post-Saddam Hussein era and push for an immediate withdrawal of coalition troops from the country.
Syria, which has come under U.S. pressure for allegedly harboring members of Saddam's regime and developing chemical weapons, is among the eight countries attending the meeting.
Also at the gathering, hosted by Saudi Arabia, are foreign ministers from Bahrain, Egypt, Iran, Jordan, Kuwait and Turkey.
