I just caught parts of the replay of the Republican debate and I am thunderstuck by the audacity of the candidates. This may have already been posted but I feel the need to mention a few comments by the candidates that scream out for rebuttal.
To Mitt Romney who heralded the 80% decline in incidents in one province of Iraq. Most cities are now segregated. Those who might have been killed have been killed or have left the areas. Few areas are now of mixed ethnic groups. No enemies, no killings
To John Mc Cain: " to leave before victory is to dishonor the troops". The troops will always have honor. It is the neo cons and Bush who are using the troops as a fig leaf to save their honor/legacy and that which is covered by the fig leaf. /To continue to send young men and women to die for no cause other than that is not only dishonorable, but immoral.
To the candidates that touted that this is an "American war". You are so wrong. There are less than 0.1% of all American families involved in the war effort. If it were an American war, we would all be sacrificing instead of the very few. If you cannot sell this to all of us that we all go, then you shouldn't send the poor hostages who are theUS military.
For an really depressing assessment of how we got here, see the movie: No End in Sight. Here is the website. http://www.pbs.org/now/shows/316/index.html
All of those interviewed are Republican operatives, good people who tried but failed to overcome the hubris and incompetence of their superiors. It is not a contest between Republican and Democrat, but between competent and incompetent.

War is an unfortune reality
War is an unfortune reality of civilizations. The writer says that only .1% is involved. Thank god that we aren't all involved. No time in the history of mankind have wars been so contained. War is horrible, people die. But I doubt we will ever be without it. We did what we had to do at the time. We now must find a way to exit without making the situation worse. We must stay engaged militarily in the Middle East. And it will most likely be for generations. Just leaving because it is "hard" is not the answer.
Fortunately Helen, traitors
Fortunately Helen, traitors such as yourself do not speak for America. President Bush speaks for America.
AMEN!!
