Product Safety? Bah Humbug!

Lets talk product competition. I still remember Bridgstone tires. I, of more recent times, remember pet food that killed or maimed our family pets. I still watch carefully the ingredients used in my toothpaste and other drugs sold over the counter. I have great grandchildren and I use caution when purchasing anything that could possible hurt them or cause death or illness for these little ones.

I will not purchase fresh fish at the market or fresh vegetables who's source is not known to me. This is just common sense.

I have a built in contraband warning system that alerts me to any products from any source that can cause me or mine to become ill or injured.

No, I'm not just addressing China, Mexico, but any other country who offers their wares without substantial data as to their safe use or consumption.

Lest you think I am neglecting "buy America" I will hasten to remind you of our e-coli problems with some of our vegetable and fruit producers and by all means don't forget the inherent dangers in our chicken and turkey production. Mad cow disease?????

So how do we protect ourselves? Its not easy, as our domestic food inspection has loop holes in it's application that you could slide an 18 wheeler through sideways.

Our answer is plain, we need to spend the necessary tax dollars to train and hire at a sensible wage, the folks who inspect the production of our food supplies both foreign and domestic. I personally would prefer to spend this money for our domestic well being than to screw around with untold billions of dollars, wasted on our "space program".

The way it now looks we are trying to fly a 2007 program with 1955 hardware and 30 year old software and not doing it well.

My point is, lets use our money in the citizens best interest and forget all the pie in the sky as todays budget solution. Remove all "earmarks" as of yesterday!
