Both Bush and McCain have been big supporters of deregulation. That has worked out well so far. It has cost the taxpayers 900 billion in bailouts. And trust me my friends, there is more to come.
The true believers, the republicans, will tell you that the bailout money is just a loan, well secured. The treasury might even make money in the long run. If you belive that, I have a bridge to sell you.
Now McCain, the new leade of the republican party is embracing regulation, the abolishment of earmarks and the banning of the good old boys from Washington. Palin schreeeeeks his praises.
To accomplish all of that, wouldnt McCain and Palin have to increase government? Can more regulation be accomplished with less government?
The truth is that McCain and Palin are economically incoherent.
Truth is that neither republicans nor democrats will be swayed. It will be up to independents to call this one.

I don't know which "major
I don't know which "major media"outlet Charlie is watching, but I've been watching many different major (and some minor) news media reports and everyone of them is reporting the enormous numbers of calls from citizens asking that Congress not pass the bailout/rescue plan. They've been reporting this situation since this story unfolded. They did not, as Charlie stated, "disgracefully fail to report" this story. It was all over their news reports.
Furthermore, if Charlie's logic works in trying to lay the blame of passing this bill on the Democrats, then what about the significantly large percentage of Republicans who supported the bill, not to mention the Republican President and his appointee Henry Paulson who literally begged for its passage? Shoot, there were numbers of Democrats who voted against it, too. Sorry, Charlie, you just can't point the finger left and blow raspberries anymore. Like it or not, this one was bi-partisan start to finish. In the press conference after its passage, the Republicans were practically teary eyed over passing it and their praise of the Democrats leading the committee was high praise indeed. The Democrats also applauded the Republicans who were so helpful. Isn't that what everybody has been wanting? A bi-partisan government where left and right work together for the common good? Oh, I forgot. Charlie is against the bill, so it must be the Democrats fault. This type of thinking (or not thinking) just won't fly in the 21st century. I don't frankly know anyone who is happy about this bill, but why can't the conservatives quit whining and trying to blame everything on the other side and carping about how news is reported? Enough of this behavior! We're in this one together and we'd better stop gesticulating the proverbial middle finger at each other!
I find it interesting that
I find it interesting that those who demanded that loans be given to those least able to repay them now deny any and all responsibility.
The so called major media disgracefullyy failed to report that the congressman were flooded with call from the tax paying public NOT to pass the bill. Then blaming the Republicans for not passing the bailout. Wonderful reporting. The Democracts believe that the taxpayers should not bes listened to, but that, they the Democrats know what is best for all
By the way, the world did not fall apart. The stockmarket is beginning to make a strong rebound. Without any help from Congress. Big surprise.
Just Thinking I was just
Just Thinking
I was just remembering what the national surplus was when Clinton left office.....Yes, I said SURPLUS! How quickly some self avowed conservatives forget who achieved that.
Anyone want to quote our national deficit now?? It's so large who can keep up with all those zeroes?? It exponential growth boggles the mind.
Reaching almost a decade backwards in a desperate attempt to lay blame on solely the democrats (or Clinton as so many of the GOP love to do ) and forgetting who has been in office for the last 8 years appears to be a another "Red Herring" bit of logic. The current administration and the Republican controlled Congress (for 5 of the last 8 years) had more than adequate time to have prevented this and instead opted to pursue the Republican philosophy of minimizing governmental regulation of business. McCain has advocated having government 'get out of the way' of business numerous times. Now we see what really happens when corporate greed has no restraints. The little guy takes it in the gut while the 'retiring' CEO walks off into the sunset of his palatial mansion(s). And then the Republican admininstration in control steps in to establish the biggest take over of public business in history. Wow! This move would even impress Putin. Talk about a switcheroo of policies. And all, I repeat ALL, on the Republican's watch. They certainly would have taken credit for anything good that may have happened, so they must be equally willing to take responsibility for the harm that they've done. Ironically, The Republican party is now chanting "Change, Change!" Even they know they've done one heck of a bad job!
```I find it interesting
```I find it interesting that the liberals and others are so willing to blame Pres. Bush and the Republicans for the current mess.
Remember former Pres. Clinton? He and his advisors decided that the people who could not handle home loans were to be given the opportunity to do so. They {Clinton and the Dem's},I believe that it was in 1999, lifted ALL loan restriction and encouraged lending institutions to lend money to them. A very brilliant move by the Clinton President. That started the current crisis. Something the Democrats try to make sure is never brought to light. With the liberal press firmly in the Democratic camp. It will never be.
If Obama is elected we can expect more of the same. Much more of the same.
Just Thinking Is anyone out
Just Thinking
Is anyone out there as amused as I am that Bush decided to stay in Washington this week to "oversee" the economic situation? Was that news supposed to be comforting? Heck of a job.....
