Cookin' Oatmeal

As a writer, I frequently fall back on using a analogy to make a point. Today is one of those times.

The analogy is comparing what the United States needs to help settle world peace as compared to cooking oatmeal on top of a gas stove.

To start the equation you ise a pot with water and bring it to a boil, then you slowly (incidiously) add the uncooked oatmeal and a bit of butter and salt. You stir it occasionally and the phone rings, and you, smart individual that you are, leaves the boiling oatmeal unattended and run to answer the phone. (Bad mistake) The unattended oatmeal continues to boil and quickly begins to overflow out of the pot and puts out the fire, but does not turn off the gas. (Oops)

You finally get off the phone and return to the kitchen, and realize that the fire is out so you immediately attempt to relight the fire, and, (you guessed it) blow the kitchen up and burn the house down.

This completes the analogy.

The United States federal government has managed to become involved in scenarios all over the world instead of taking care of our own problems. Silly things like energy, wasteful federal spending, public health, homeland security, just to mention a few.

So heres where the analogy kicks in, big time, we started to do do something simple like cooking breakfast, but become involved in trying to walk and chew gum at the same time, ie., cook unattended oatmeal and talk on the phone.

There is a simplistic solution to our dillemma, get out of the rest of the worlds business and solve our own problems. We are pouring our financial resources down the rat hole and not actually acomplishing the things necessary to maintain our desired way of life.

Our presence is not appreciated in the most of the places we are involved so lets get out, cut our losses and get on with solving our own problems.

Dont forget the blown up kitchen and the burned down house. World war lll is knocking on our door, so please turn off the gas, let the pot cool down and try to survive.

There is a lesson in this if we only take time to read it.
