I do not dislike Austin, Cap Metro, or TexDot. To the contrary, these enteties furnish me with some very neat grist for my insatiable satire mill, and for this I give thanks.
When I was writing my syndicated column, "39 and Holding", Bill Clinton who hails from Arkansas gave me the fodder for many of my weekly observations.
Now that Bill as gone, and I am retired, as a writer , I feel the need to poke fun at some one and/or something, so I have to select targets of opportunity. Austin's avowed desire to be classed as "weird" certainly fills a portion of this need and the other sources tend to back this up.
I tend to get a bit put out when our wonderful men and women in uniform are lambasted, and the folks who do this are certain to feel the blast of my petard.
When elected officials act like fools, and other folks who are on the State and National dole do likewise, they simply open the door for the caress of my fingers on my G-4 Mac's keyboard.
I am a firm believer in the old saw having to do with my government and it's employees, "defend my shores, deliver my mail and otherwise stay the hell out of my life" school of thought.
